Textiles, traffic, and a twirl festival in Shumen

Textile and shoe collection drive at Arena Shumen today

A campaign to collect unwanted textiles and shoes is taking place at Arena Shumen today between 08:00 and 12:00. Experts from Shumen Municipality and representatives from the firm Texslife will be on hand in the car park to assist residents dropping off bags and sacks of textile items.

The drive accepts clothing and accessories, including bags, belts, shoes, towels, tablecloths and other textile products. All items must be suitable for reuse, and there is no limit on the quantity residents can bring. A previous collection drive in Shumen on 4 April gathered 2.2 tonnes of unwanted textiles in just four hours.

Temporary traffic restrictions for majorette festival this afternoon

Shumen Municipality is imposing temporary traffic restrictions today for the National Majorette Dance Festival, 'Madarski Konnik'. Motor vehicles will be barred from Slavyanski Boulevard between the junction with Karel Škorpil Street and the junction with Adam Mickiewicz Street from 12:00 until 19:00. The car park in front of the Municipal Administration building will also be cleared of vehicles during the same period.

Traffic will be suspended on several other streets, including Panayot Volov and Karel Škorpil, from 16:30 to 16:50 to allow a parade of majorettes to proceed from Kristal Square to the Municipal Administration building. The festival's official opening ceremony will take place at 17:00, followed by competition in the '100-metre march parade' category from 17:30. The festival continues tomorrow at Arena Shumen.

Sunny in the east, yellow weather warning for western Bulgaria

Sunny weather is forecast for most of Bulgaria today, with cloud cover increasing from the west-southwest during the afternoon and spreading to the northeast by evening. Many areas will see short-lived but intense rainfall with thunderstorms. A south-southeast wind will strengthen to moderate and strong levels, though it will remain weak in the western Danube plain and western parts of the Gorna Trakiya lowland. Maximum temperatures will range between 21°C and 26°C, with Shumen reaching around 24°C.

Along the Black Sea coast, sunny weather will give way to high cloud after lunch, with cumulus and cumulo-rain clouds developing in the evening over the southern coast and later over the northern coast. Thunderstorms are expected overnight into Sunday. A moderate to strong south-easterly wind will blow, with maximum temperatures between 17°C and 21°C. Sea water temperature is between 13°C and 16°C, with wave height increasing to 3-4 on the Beaufort scale.
