Planned maintenance is cutting electricity to multiple towns and villages across the Shumen region today and tomorrow. Meanwhile, the mayor of Shumen received an award from Bulgaria's naval academy, and forecasters predict sunshine but unseasonably cool temperatures.

Widespread power cuts for maintenance across the region

Electricity will be cut to numerous settlements across the Shumen region today and tomorrow as part of planned maintenance by Energo-Pro, the distribution network operator.

Today's outages affect Kaspichan (villa zone, 08:00–17:00), Izrev (09:30–16:30 and again 09:00–17:00 tomorrow), Kosovo (09:30–17:00), villages Tykach, Lovets, Mogila, Belokopitovo, Pristoe and Ivanski at various times. The town of Veliki Preslav will see cuts in specific streets (ul. Otets Paisiy, ul. Pirin, ul. Kamchia and others) from 09:00–16:00 today.

Tomorrow's schedule includes additional cuts in Novi Pazar and Drumevo, with brief disruptions (around 30 minutes) in some streets. Some outages may stretch across both days, 08:30–17:00, and residents are advised to check which transformer station (TP) they are connected to for exact timings.

Shumen mayor honoured at naval academy anniversary

The mayor of Shumen, Prof. Hristo Hristov, received a plaque from the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna during the institution's 145th anniversary ceremony.

The academy recognised Shumen Municipality as a long-standing partner. In his remarks, Prof. Hristov said: 'It is an honour to be among you on the 145th anniversary of the Naval Academy, an institution with authority, tradition and an exceptional contribution to military education in Bulgaria.'

The official programme concluded with a ceremonial march by the academy's representative brass band and a gala concert at Varna's Festival and Congress Centre.

Sunny but unseasonably cool

Today will be mostly sunny, though cumulus clouds will develop this afternoon in eastern and mountain areas, bringing occasional light rain. A light east-northeasterly breeze will keep things cool for mid-May.

Maximum temperatures will range 17°–22°C across the country, with Shumen reaching around 17°C. In the mountains, expect 11°C at 1,200 metres and 4°C at 2,000 metres. Along the Black Sea coast, highs of 16°–18°C are forecast, with sea temperatures 13°–17°C and wave heights 1–2 on the Beaufort scale.

BTA press club in Targovishte marks four-year anniversary

Four years ago today, on Targovishte's city day, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) opened its National Press Club in the city. The ribbon was cut by BTA's Director General Kiril Valchev, Regional Governor Stanimir Parashkevov and Mayor Darin Dimitrov.

The press club, located in the Regional Administration building at 2 Stefan Karadzha Street, has since hosted press conferences, discussions, exhibitions and cultural events. BTA maintains 27 press clubs in regional capitals across Bulgaria, plus six more in smaller towns and ten abroad, including one at the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingston Island.
