Shumen faces a series of planned disruptions today as electricity maintenance affects multiple neighbourhoods and utilities, while a water outage hits Matnitsa. Food safety inspectors found no expired products at five school and university canteens, though some premises need maintenance work.

Sunny skies with thunderstorms forecast

Sunny weather is expected today with cumulus cloud development and short, intense thunderstorms in many areas during and after midday. Hail is possible. Light to moderate west-southwest winds will strengthen temporarily during storms. Maximum temperatures will reach 22–27°C, around 25°C in Shumen.

In the mountains, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop with short-lived precipitation and thunderstorms in many areas. Moderate west-southwest winds, strong at higher elevations. Maximum temperature around 15°C at 1,200m, around 9°C at 2,000m.

Along the Black Sea coast, cloud cover will be significant, with cumulus development after midday bringing short thunderstorms in places. Light southwest winds. Maximum temperatures 19–20°C on the northern coast to 24–25°C on the southern coast. Sea water temperature 14–16°C, wave height around 2 on the Beaufort scale.

Planned power cuts across Shumen region

Planned maintenance on electricity supply infrastructure today from 9:00 to 16:00 will cause disruptions lasting around 30 minutes in parts of Shumen city, including streets Parva, Peta, Sedma, Treta and Severna.

Operational switching at the ESO's request will cause brief disruptions between 9:00–9:30 and 15:30–16:00 in areas including Voinishki stan metro station, Matnitsa district, Tsarev brod village, Makak district and Kamenyak village. Similar switching will affect pumping station Matnitsa, areas around Alcomet AD, and parts of Kaspichan.

Full-day power cuts from 9:00 to 16:00 will affect streets in Veliki Preslav, including sections of Dobrudzha, Lyuben Karavelov, Lozarska, Yubileyna, Otets Paisiy, Pirin, and areas around Preslavsko pile.

Extended outages until 15 May will affect villages Lovets (streets Kaloyan, Svoboda, Tsar Simeon), Belokopitovo, Pristoe (streets Yuriy Gagarin, Cherven bryag, Republika, Voden, Avrora), Ivanski, Novi pazar (streets Golo bardo, Milin kamak, D-r Petar Beron, Makedoniya), Drumevo (streets General Stoletov, Georgi Dimitrov, Mitko Palauzov, Buzludzha), Mogila and Izgrev.

Matnitsa district without water until 18:00

Water supply to Shumen's Matnitsa district will be cut until 18:00 today due to planned electricity maintenance affecting pumping station Matnitsa. The repairs are being carried out by ESO and will interrupt power supply to the pumping facility.

ViK Shumen said it will inform residents in advance when water begins to be restored gradually to the network after power is reconnected.

School canteens pass food safety checks

Inspectors from the Regional Directorate for Food Safety checked five school and university canteens in Shumen region on 24 April. No expired food was found and no contraventions relating to the origin or proper storage of raw materials and ready-to-eat food were identified, said deputy director Dr Todorka Yankovska-Stefanova.

No administrative violation reports were issued. Some premises had non-compliance issues unrelated to food safety, concerning the condition of service areas. Prescriptions with deadlines for completion were issued.
