Assault, fire, and water theft in Shumen

Three separate incidents in and around the city this week. A 26-year-old man was detained for vigilante violence in Svishtov, a fire destroyed an outbuilding in the Makak neighbourhood, and police uncovered an illegal water connection in Ivanovo village.

Man detained in Svishtov for assault and property damage

A 26-year-old man from Svishtov was detained on Thursday afternoon following a dispute that escalated into violence on a central street in the Danube city.

Police responding to a call found that an argument between two local men, aged 24 and 26, had turned physical. The older man used a metal rod to strike the other man's car, causing damage. He was detained for up to 24 hours and pre-trial proceedings have been opened.

Late last year, police in nearby Struino village detained a 21-year-old man on similar charges of assault and property damage.

Fire destroys outbuilding and equipment in Makak

Fire crews were called to a blaze at a property on Mir Street in Shumen's Makak neighbourhood at 18:19 on Wednesday evening. Two fire engines attended.

An outbuilding attached to a house was alight, believed to have started after an electrical short circuit. The fire destroyed a vacuum cleaner, electric generator, and angle grinder, plus around 25 square metres of roofing. Firefighters used 5 tonnes of water to extinguish the flames. The main house was saved from damage.

Illegal water connection discovered in Ivanovo

Police and water company officials uncovered an illegal connection to the mains water network during a joint inspection around midday on Wednesday.

A man from Ivanovo village had connected unlawfully to the water supply using a stopcock and PVC pipe from an uninhabited property. Pre-trial proceedings have been opened.
